St Anne’s Homes in Cape Town, South Africa .

Morland has established a direct link with the Homes as an outreach project in response to the current Survival to Revival programme in the Carlisle Diocese.

On Sunday, November 16th 2008, we held an African Service to raise funds for this cause. See Mike Billing's beautiful photographs of this fun event by following this link.

Judith Lightburn, who has visited St Anne’s, explained that they provide a safe temporary home for destitute women and their children. They try to keep mother and child together and provide bed, food and crèche facilities for an initial six months.

During that time the mother has to help to run the home by undertaking chores and is encouraged to learn some skills. She is then encouraged to seek work and to look for her own accommodation knowing that her child is safe in the crèche.

Judith said that although the homes were spotlessly clean and had loving and helpful staff, they were very basic and lacking in toys and had only a very small collection of well- thumbed books.

It is hoped that the money raised will help to provide things for the children and that future events will be held to provide further funds.

The homes are strongly linked to St Mark's Anglican Church in Cape Town.
